Little calf can’t feed
6 October 2009
Below is a video of a day old Wagu calf who was too small to reach mum’s udder. She was being observed and it was picked up very early after birth that she hadn’t fed. When we first bought her in she was dehydrated - blue tongue, too weak to stand, etc. We treated her with homeopathic corpse reviver and homeopathic sulphur in the first instance.
After some adventure we managed to get mum in the yard and milk some colostrum from her. This very rich, creamy milk is very important for her to have even if we do poddy her. So for three days mum was milked and baby fed from a stubby bottle.
After feeding her from mum on the third day she went onto powdered calf milk and will most likely be bought to our house yard to be fed four times a day (initially).
I hope you enjoy the footage of this little calf. She looks weak but everyday grows stronger.
