Help your Dog Naturally – Retained Placenta in Dogs

This page provides information on the symptoms, signs and natural homeopathic treatment of retained placenta in bitches.

What is retained placenta

jorja-and-her-pups

The placenta is the feeding sack that nourishes the foetus during pregnancy.  One will pass with each pup during the birthing process and will be consumed by the bitch along with the sack that surrounds each pup.  It is difficult to determine if all the placentas have passed in part or in full because unlike humans, the mother will have eaten this vitamin rich parcel as it comes out.  This is a natural process and although not to humans liking does ensure the mother has enough nutrients to feed her babies in the early stages after birth.

The passing of the placenta and any other birthing discharge is naturally stimulated by the babies suckling.  Therefore it is ideal for the babies to feed as soon as possible after birth.  If left to themselves they will feed between the birth of each pup.  The suckling from the already born pups will stimulate the contractions that bring on the next pup.  As a result we often see the delivery of subsequent babies come quicker.

We are breeders of short haired border collies and it has been our practice for the past ten years, since commencing the use of homeopathic medicines to treat the mum as soon after birth with a homeopathic shock remedy which can be found in the Heal with Ease Beginners Kit. This releases shock that the mum may have gone through during birthing and is carried to the babies through her milk to lift their shock as well.

Approx. 1/2 hour after the shock remedy is administered we give the Retained Placenta remedy in the Heal with Ease Breeders Kit.  Whether there is placenta left behind or not, this remedy will release any birthing bits and will assist with the retraction of the uterus and bringing in the milk.  However if the placenta is still inside and you just don’t know it will be a vital step in saving your bitch.

If you have a bitch that has whelped and you are unsure if she has a retained placenta, the signs you will be seeing will be a general ill health, lethargy, vaginal discharge that lasts more than 48 hours after birthing has finished, lack of interest in pups, loss of appetite.  She will generally be in a bad way and treatment of some sort is required asap.  If surgical intervention occurs you may find it is difficult to get her back in pup.  The homeopathic remedies in the Breeders Pack will help you to lift out the shock of ordeal, cleanse her uterus and increase her fertility for future litters.  When you purchase the Breeders Pack we are here to support you to achieve this goal.

The Retained Placenta remedy is part of the Heal with Ease Breeders Kit.  We always recommend that Breeders of all animals have the three basic kits – Beginners, Extension and Breeders, thereby giving them a range of remedies to deal with most issues that arise in their animals.

Mastitis in Dogs

Mastitis mainly occurs shortly after birth as the milk ‘comes in’ and also at time of weaning when one or more glands become swollen, hot and tender to the touch. The milk jorja-and-her-pupsbecomes curdled and yellow after a while and in neglected cases discolouration of the mammary region occurs. The bitch is obviously in pain and discomfort and has an anxious expression.

As breeders of dogs and farmers we have seen mastitis occur in all range of animals. We recommend for Breeders that they have the three Heal with Ease kits on hand to deal with the range of issues that can come up during and after birth and for treatment of lactating mum and puppies issues.

The three kits will provide you with a range of remedies to treat mastitis in all animals, not just bitches. Our lead remedy for Mastitis is in our Breeders kit, labelled as such, but other remedies will become invaluable to the breeder during these stressful times. We recommend our Sudden Illness remedy (in the Extension Kit) for the sudden onset of the initial stage to assist with the emotional distress it causes the mother, the Fever remedy (in the Beginners Kit) to ease the swelling and reduce the heat from the teats.

If purchased together the three kits come at a discounted rate of $500, saving $50. The Breeders pack (three kits) comes with twelve months support to get you started into breeding your animals naturally.

Dog Boils / Abscesses in Dogs

First you may notice a soft swelling from under the skin.  It may be painful, although many times there is little or no pain.  When a dog has an abscess it can cause generalised illness and in most cases can be handled at home using specific homeopathic medicine.eric-chief

An abscess occurs when an infection develops in a part of the body that is capable of opening into a pocket, usually as a result of a puncture wound of some sort.  Bites, scratches and foreign objects under the skin – splinters, grass seeds, piece of glass, etc.  These pockets fill with pus, which is an accumlation of dead bacteria and dead inflammatory cells that have moved into the area to attempt to eliminate the bacteria/foreign object.  The body attempts to isolate the problem to avoid causing damage to the rest of the body.  A great technique the body has to manage infection.

Eventually, the pus accumulates to the point that the abscess must rupture.  This creates an opening through the skin to the outside of the body and facilitates elimination of the infection.

Using the homeopathic Abscess remedy found in the HWE Beginners Kit you can support the body during the expulsion of the infection/foreign object and avoid the use of antibiotic medicine.  If the abscess is close to the eye you might need to visit the vet to avoid damage to the eye.

Purchase your Abscess Remedy today in either 10ml bottle for $25 plus $5 postage or 50ml for $50 plus $5 postage.

No more bad skin for Sharnie

We had been working with Desley and Sharnie, Desley’s beautiful Maltese for quite a while and sometimes her skin would be good, but mostly she was itching, red and sore.  The usual itch treatment just didn’t work on Sharnie.  There was something deeper that needed to be released.

Desley was very understanding and said that although it obviously worked for others, Sharnie was just a ‘tough case’.  We suggest Desley run a Personalised Healing Program with Sharnie to really get to the bottom of the problems.

This was Desley’s email after she had finished Sharnies’ Personalised treatment and also following are the before and after photos:

My girls are great and they have been out in the yard with a big lamb bone and thoroughly enjoying them. Neither have done this or been interested for a long time.   When my son Luke arrived the other day and I opened the front door Mitzie took off and tried to run down the street so Sharnie thought this was also an opportunity for her to follow so were in chase of two naughty girls. I just love to see them so bright.

The other dog that Desley refers to in her email is Mitzie.  We have been working on Mitzie’s general good health as she has been diagnosed with a heart condition for which she is on a lot of medication.  Desley is giving her daily doses of HWE Tonic to build and maintain her immune system and keep her bright and happy.

Our basic Itch healing kit is not for everyone.  Deep emotional and chemical problems may need our Personalised Healing Program to get to the bottom of situation.

Mastitis in Dogs

Mastitis is the engorgement of the mammary glands (breasts, teats, etc) and can happen immediately after the birth of the baby/ies and also at time of weaning.

There are many homeopathic remedies that will help with the pain and discomfort of mastitis and reduce the engorgement in a very short time.  The fever remedy in our Beginners Kit is a good remedy, however in our Breeders Kit we have specifically the best homeopathic remedy for Mastitis.

Just one or two doses and the problem will be alleviated.

This post may be about mastitis in dogs, however the same remedies would be used in all animals – cats, horses, cows, goats, people, etc.

Flea Problems

Giving Fleas the flick naturally

I have been working with homeopathic medicines on animals for 10 years and there are a few things that have become very clear to me in that time. Firstly is that a strong, healthy animal cannot play host to parasites – worms, fleas, ticks, etc. The second and probably the most interesting is that most animals in today’s society are toxic.

From vaccinations to medications to pollution and pesticides our animals are being exposed to poisons at every turn. It is no surprise that we are seeing a rise in disease (meaning that the body is at dis – ease, not balanced), presenting it’s self in the form of severe itch, serious illness and general ill health.

We are told that our itchy pet is allergic to fleas so we put more chemicals on it, tipping the animal over the edge further. In the process of doing this we are not only giving our dog more toxins, but ourselves and our families as well.

The problem has been that we need the fleas to go for our pets and for our families. But there is no point “burning down the house to get rid of the ants” as it were. There has to be a better answer.

This has been my quest for the past few years. My clients ask me what we can do homeopathically to ‘get rid of fleas’. Homeopathy doesn’t work like that so I had to restructure my thinking from what can we do to ‘get rid of fleas’ to what can we do to build up the system of the body to make it ‘naturally repel fleas’. I have always known that a healthy, strong body cannot host fleas and this was my starting point.

In my business, I assist my clients to firstly detox the poisons out of their animals and then provide them with a tonic that they can use daily in the first instance to really build the immune system and then drop treatment back to weekly.

The results have been amazing. Not only have the fleas packed up and moved off – probably to a less healthy animal, but also problems like arthritis pain, skin health and energy levels have been improved dramatically.

In these times of heightened awareness of chemicals in our lives, we are all searching for a way to live without doing more damage to ourselves, our families, our pets and our environment. Looking to alternative medicines, like homeopathy is a great place to start.

Itchy Skin on your pet

connor-pearseIs your pet itching for no apparent reason?  You have checked for fleas, had skin scrapings, medication and still your pet is constantly itching?

You are not alone.  This is the number one reason people come to us for help.  We have been dog owners, trialers and breeders since 1991 and it was only when we commenced healing animals for the public did we find out about itch problems and it is epidemic.

The number one reason that animals itch is toxin overload.  Just think on it for a minute.  From the vaccinations, to flea treatments, to the chemicals we clean our house with and spray our garden.  Even the food we give our pets, the grass that they run on in the park and the toxic fumes in the air.  No wonder our pets and us as well are overloaded with toxins.  This overload can lead to far worse than just itchy skin.  In fact the release of toxins through the skin is a very natural release, but one that is ongoing unless you cleanse the system

By the time people get to us with their itchy pets they have often been down the track of chemical treatments either from the pet store or the vet and as we explained above the problem is toxin overload.  So more chemical treatments will only aggravate the situation.  Maybe providing a short term solution but nothing more than that.

If you haven’t suppressed the itch at this point then you will get good response from our Itchy Pet Kit which includes a great detox remedy and also other remedies for healing the damaged skin.

If you have used chemical treatments before then a more in depth healing will be required.  In these situations we offer our Personalised Healing Program to really get your pet clear of itch and also heal any organ damage caused by the medicated treatments.  If there are any little side issues, they will be cleared up during the healing process.  A series of three healing plans is recommended to achieve a full healing.

After birth problems

An update on Jorja the beautiful Border Collie of Lisa’s.  On 8 October Jorja gave birth to another litter of 8 puppies.  The mating, pregnancy, birth and post birth all happened without any issues.  This is usually the case after treating birthing issues with the homeopathic remedies.  The remedies allow the problems to resolve and leave the body allowing the female to reproduce without any issue.  If Jorja had to have a vet procedure it is unlikely that Lisa would have had this litter without more problems.

Below is a lovely photo of Jorja and her pups.

jorja-and-her-pups

Lisa contacted us on 21 March 2009 with the following concerns:

My problem is I don’t think Jorja is producing enough milk as they (the pups) don’t feed for very long before they are all trying to swap nipples looking for more and there just isn’t any.   I know my other bitch Nyx looked like she had firm grapefruits down there, whereas Jorjas hang but are quite floppy.

So I was wondering if you know of any homepathic remedies that would assist a bitch produce more milk.  After doing a google on the subject, couldn’t find much apart from some suggestions for her diet so I have just started adding lots of high fat foods to her diet (full cream milk, cottage cheese) as well as eggs and chicken necks/wings she was already on, giving her puppy biccies but she isn’t too keen on them but eats performance biccies.    The puppies seem a little bit more settled this evening and they are still putting on weight, but I’m still worried its not enough weight gain.  She has been tending to feed them quite a lot which I don’t think is helping with milk production if she is low as she isn’t really filling back up so she wakes them for a feed and they stay hungry.   I am trying to supplement them on the bottle but that is a challenge in itself.  The littlest is the best on this.    My other option is to find a vet to show me how to tube feed as a few breeders I have spoken to said this was better than bottle feeding as you know the food is getting to them and they have known breeders to lose puppies who are being bottle fed and showing a weight gain.  Obviously as this is my first litter, already nervous enough for their welfare.

Any advice would be appreciated.

We got back to Lisa immediately advising that in our breeding of working dogs and in the experience of our clients, her Jorja was probably not fully cleaned out after the birth.  We had remedies that would help Jorja to clean our her uterus and bring her milk down.  This would take any infection out of her body as well.

Lisa came in a hurry to collect her remedies and this was her email two days later:

Gave her the stuff Sunday arvo and evening.  She did have a bit of blood and gunk in her discharge and faeces immediately after, so she probably did have some stuff left inside her.  She seemed a bit better later that on but I was a bit worried about her in the early hours of the morning as she

She was still panting heavily and she didn’t look the best.  So I gave her another 2 treatments of the no 2 bottle as I read you could give up to 6 in 24 hours.  Her milk still wasn’t good so had another night of hungry puppies, even despite my taking them to the vet Sunday evening for a tube feeding as she basically had nothing to give them and they were screaming and no matter how hard I tried could not get them to bottle feed.

Anyway yesterday morning, she was keen to eat so just kept feeding her as much as she wanted to eat and then took her and the pups to another breeders for the day so she could keep an eye on them all as I had to work, but she said they were good all day, and fed regularly plus it feels like there is more milk in there not just saggy boobs.  She also had a big dinner last night (chuck steak, chicken necks, meat offcuts)  and is also noticeably drinking more water again.  So overnight was the real test and the puppies were much better and I woke at 4.00am to find them happily feeding off her so she must have had milk so there was no screaming and I was able to get some sleep.  She happily feed them a few times while I was getting ready for work and again was keen to have her breaky and fluids and get back in and feed them so they were all fed and contented when I left for work.  My neighbour Kerry was going over at lunch today to check on them all and also to see if Jorja wanted to eat anything and to also give her some more puppy milk formula as she is keen on this stuff and apparently she woofed it all down.  She is only a small bitch anyway, so I know next time she has a litter what to do and make sure she keeps her food and fluids up after the puppies are born as it definately has had a big impact on her milk production.  She still has a slight discharge, but its not as thick and yukky as it was but rather just watery blood and have checked to make sure there was no smell.

The Breeders pack that Lisa purchased to achieve this healing with Jorja was $500, the value of only one of her well bred pups.  Lisa will have her kit for many years and many litters to come.  The bonus with the Breeders pack is that Lisa will be able to pick up six additional remedies at no cost over the next twelve months.  They will be determined on what she needs as new situations come up.

In her kit she has remedies that will help her quietly wean the pups without any upset to mum or the babies.  Also a remedy if unlike Jorja her next litter mum doesn’t want to mother up with the pups.  There is also a remedy for Mastitis, Grief and a Bone knit remedy for healing bone fractures.

Amazing value and Lisa is more than happy with the outcome.

Saving Jude’s pup after vaccination

Jude rang me early on 19 February 2009.  Two days prior she had vaccinated her six year old dog and now it was ill.  Jude related the illness to the vaccination because it commenced immediately following the injection.

The dogs symptoms were vomiting and diarrhoea.  She had been back to the vet and had been given medication which was immediately vomited back up when given.  The vet offered to put the dog on the drip overnight to rehydrate her.  At this point Jude was skeptical of the vet and concerned over the cost of an overnight stay at the vet.

A chance meeting with a Heal with Ease client at the Gym on 19 February bought Jude to us.  We consulted on what her friend had in her kit and luckily enough she had what Jude needed to save her dog.  We treated with the Vaccinosis remedy in the first instance, following with the Fever remedy to assist with rehydration after the two days of illness.

Jude rang me at 4pm that day to say that the vomiting had stopped, her dog was running around happily as if nothing had happened and was ravenously hungry.  A fast, easy healing on a very serious problem.

Some would say that Jude was unlucky with her dog and this vaccination problem.  We would say the opposite.  Jude knew what had caused her dogs problems and this made it much easier for us to treat. Many dogs have vaccinosis issues that no one ever relates to their vaccinations.

Daily we treat dogs with symptoms of vaccinosis – they aren’t all the same, they range from skin itches, digestive problems, anger issues, lethargy to generally being unwell.

Since the horse flu and the subsequent vaccination that went with that, we are seeing an increase in vaccinosis in horses in the form of sarcoids or warty type growths and unhealthy coats.

Generally our animals are quite toxic from the medications we give them, to their vaccinations, food and environment.  They are living on the edge with regard to health and it only takes a small thing to tip them over.

If your animals are not as well as they should be or their skin is itchy and you can’t pick them back up, consider their toxin levels.  Heal with Ease offer consultations for serious illness, however with our Beginners Kit, Extension Kit and Vaccinosis remedy you can detox your animals regularly and treat little problems as they come up, easily and simply at home.  All our kits come with our support so if you are unsure what to do, just drop us an email and we will get back to you quickly.

From Heal with Ease we wish for you and your animals good health and happiness.
