Heal with Ease treatment for Autism

This is the first time we've ever done an online treatment for everyone to watch the progress.  I've been asking around for a volunteer to work with us to see if we can help someone with Autism.  The statistics tell us that by 2025, 1 in 2 children will be Autistic.  This is a fast rising epidemic and we here at Heal with Ease need to know how we can be of assistance to families facing future with an Autistic children.

Michelle contacted us today after a friend shared with her our desire to see how our Heal with Ease treatment can help someone struggling with Autism.  Over the next 6 months we'll be working with her son Seth.  Seth is 13 years old and has been diagnosed with Autism since he was 3.

Michelle is going to share with us the changes she notices in Seth as we go through the healing plans.  We won't be sharing a photo of Seth as we want to protect his privacy.

I tried to put in jump links to make following Seth's story easier for everyone but Blogger kept changing the links which is sooo frustrating.  My next options is to have Seth's journey in parts on different pages.  The links below will take you different pages following Seth's healing journey.

This page is about Seth's history, his first plan tested on 27 April 2017 and his mum's feedback of the changes in Seth during the running of the first plan.

2nd link - Seth's second healing plan tested 8th May 2017

Below Michelle shares some of Seth's history with us.  Michelle has been very proactive with Seth's autism - researching and trying different healing modalities, managing his health and his diet.  Michelle speaks publicly about her journey with Seth and the different ways she's found to help him to cope.

Michelle emailed me the following, "Seth is a great kid, who works really hard, he is funny and really curious about Autism and what parts of him are from Autism and what parts are not. His biggest struggle is Anxiety, which steams from sensory overload. Seth has struggled with falling asleep for years. (We have been having melatonin, to aid him to fall asleep for the last 2 months).

The Sensory overload for Seth it is mainly sight, sound, touch and taste. He is overloading with these senses very minute of everyday and at the same time he goes to school, tries to learn and tries to follow ALL the rules. He works so hard :-)"

A Brief History for Seth

0-18 months (1 ½ year)

Health: Healthy happy baby interacted typically

Developmentally: Compared to his peers (mothers group) he was the last to sit, crawl and walk (but only by a month or two) nothing out of the ordinary

18 – 28 months (1 ½ -2 ½ years)

Health: It was at 1 ½ when I thought he had digestive issues that interfered with his sleep, I thought it could be dairy or wheat? I provided him with organic foods and tried alternated from wheat to wheat free at different times, because doctor told me he wouldn’t get all the nutrients he needed.

Developmentally: His speech was not developing at the same rate as peers, they were joining words and using verbal requesting and could communicate feelings. Seth was still using single words and pointing for what he wanted. Socially his interactions were not as boisterous or playful as the other. He seemed to be reserved.

28 – 36 months (2 ½ -3 years)

Health: Still on all organic foods, never refused any foods and would always eat what was offered. Sleeps well

Developmentally: Speech was still not developing and as an only child he would seem to play and be happy, really liked the Wiggles and was no trouble. But lack of ability to use speech lead me to seek advice from health nurse.

36 – 72 months (3 -6 years)

Health: Still on all organic foods, but at 3 he immediately started to spit food out, almost all food. (Hardest thing I’ve ever had to deal with). He became extremely sensitive to sounds and touch become overwhelmed with his senses.

Medically: At 3 we had him tested (after doing my own research it was clear to be that he had autism) he was diagnosed a couple of months later.

Developmentally: As an only child he would seem to play and be happy, really liked the Wiggles and was no trouble as long as he had things that he liked. Language was not growing.

Therapy began: Biomedical treatment

Diet

Speech therapy

Occupational therapy

Hyperbaric chamber therapy

Auditory processes therapy

Massage/meditation

6 – 13 years

Health As discussed, Seth has not had an antibiotic since he was 3. I have always been protective of his immune system as I know that it the foundations for his brain, stomach and body to function at its best.

Medically: Diagnosed with General Anxiety disorder

Developmentally: After many years of HARD work, Seth is attending mainstream high school and he works hard every day to behave and react in a way that is socially and academically acceptable. He is funny, naughty and confident. The main struggle he has is that, working so hard every day to do what is expected by teacher, schools (others) in general is hard work mentally. He can ‘obsess and worry’ about the work he has to do and how hard it is. This leads to refusal to what to go to school.

SPIRIT ANIMAL

BACTERIAS, VIRUSES, PARASITES

Mycobacterium Avium-intracellulare Infection (MAI). Symptoms include fever, night sweats, weight loss, abdominal pain, fatigue and diarrhoea.

Rotavirus causes watery diarrhoea, severe dehydration, fever, vomiting.

CHEMICAL EXPOSURE

Atrazine + Ametryn herbicide - has been linked to cancer, birth defects, reproductive effects, neurotoxicity, kidney/liver damage, sensitiser/irritant, groundwater contamination, toxic to fish.

Fomesafen herbicide. Corrosive to eyes and can cause skin irritation.

INHERITED ISSUES

Atopy - (atopic syndrome) is a syndrome characterised by a tendency to be "hyper allergic". A person with atopy typically presents with one or more of the following; eczema (atopic dermatitis), allergic rhinitis (hay fever) or allergic asthma.

Autosomal Recessive Polycystic Kidney Disease (ARPKD). Symptoms and signs include abdominal discomfort, polyuria, polydipsia, hypertension.

Cerebellar abiotrophy (CA), also referred to as the cerebellar cortical abiotrophy (CCA), is a genetic neurological disease in animals best known to affect certain breeds of horses, cattle, dogs and cats. It can also develop in human beings. It develops when the neurons known as Purkinje cells, located in the cerebellum of the brain, begin to die off. These cells affect balance and coordination. They have a critical role to play in the brain. The Purkinje layer allows communication between the granular and molecular cortical layers in the cerebellum. Put simply, without Purkinje cells, an animal loses its sense of space and distance, making balance and coordination difficult. People with damage to the cerebellum can experience symptoms like unsteady gait, poor muscle control, and trouble speaking or swallowing.

Pyruvate kinase deficiency, also called erythrocyte pyruvate kinase deficiency, is an inherited metabolic disorder of the enzyme pyruvate kinase which affects the survival of red blood cells. Symptoms are anema, gallstones, tachycardia (fast heart rate), hemochromatosis (iron imbalance), icteric sclera (yellowing of white of the eye), splenomegaly (spleen enlargement), leg ulcers, jaundice, fatigue and shortness of breath.

Michelle's Feedback on Seth's first plan

Our story:

Intro and Plan 1

Life is busy, add to that constantly trying to support a child living with autism (physically, academically, socially, emotionally and spiritually) while trying to help other kids, teacher and school support other children autism, I really didn't have too much time to research or understand (still don't) the who, how, what, why and when of heal with ease. I just got a call on day from a friend who knew a lady.

After a chat with Cathy, what I really understood is that she understood what I meant when I spoke about that fact that 'I knew' my son immune system had never been right. I explained that I have spent the last 10 trying to clear his system internally. In saying that the only real thing I could do, was control what I physically put into his body. Biomedical treatment saw me focus (through diet) to trying and heal his gut and to keep his brain clear of as many toxins as I could so he would be able to use it to the best of it function. No medicine, his last antibiotic was just before he turned 3, just before the diagnose.

With that in place ,we have tried every mainstream and alternative therapies, hyperbaric oxygen, diet, play, audio processing and speech/OT therapy. Every therapy to date has had some benefit, some small some HUGE. There are external supports in place from the moment he wakes up to the moment he goes to sleep. Keeping all that in mind, when I spoke to Cathy on the phone, I was 4 days away from getting a prescription for him! I had decided I was going to try an SSRI which is an antidepressant. I had made this decision because while I was doing everything I knew how to do, my son was still suffering from huge anxiety. I decided it wasn't fair for him to feel this way.

As a parent, Autism has taught me to not listen to what doctors or therapist believe, but to see what true and works for my son. I tried to use common sense and if something works I keep doing it.

Then came the call: (so I'm holding of on the SSRI)

Baseline

Things that remained the same:

Behaviours

Overwhelming anxiety
Diet - Ridged
Monday - Friday - Wake Up 7:00am
Daily
Reward systems for not crying to go to school
Reward system for going to each class

Wednesday
Thursday

(strategies with wellbeing team at school, fully supported)

Talk overload:
He discusses his anxiety about going to school from the second he opens his eyes
crying while getting dressed
He discussed his anxiety about going to school (while crying)
Discussed how he wants to stop complaining and crying all the way to school (while crying)
complaining and crying all the way to school
crying as he gets out of the car, burdened with anxiety
Thursday is a major hurdle. He start worrying about it on Wednesday because he has 4 core classes, overwhelmed with the thought of work (even though it has been modified) and he is completely able.
School pick up - Complains repetitively about not wanting to go to school the next day. Wants to go to the shops to look at Lego (to reduce the anxiety)
Technology (Ps4, Wii, DS) - Relaxed, enthralled (peaceful) no burdens
Verbal reminder or prompts for daily duties - Pick up clothes, pack school bag, make bed - Doesn't respond (repetitively have to instruct him)
Homework - No chance, crying, panic
Dinner - Relaxed
Bedtime 8:30pm (sleep time) 9 or 9:30 - Anxiety about not wanting to sleep
Sleep - Unable to sleep on his own (refuses to sleep in his own bed).  3 hours deep sleep, 4-5 hours light sleep (toss and turns all night) (monitored)

Plan 1

Things that remained the same

Behaviours

Overwhelming anxiety (reduced)
Diet - Ridged
Monday - Friday - Wake Up 7:30am
Daily
Reward systems for not crying to go to school
Reward system for going to each class

Wednesday
Thursday

(strategies with wellbeing team at school, fully supported)

Talk overload: (but no tears)
He discussed his anxiety about going to school (but no tears)
Discussed how he was going to try and stop complaining and crying all the way to school (but no tears)

Got out of the car on Wednesday without crying
Got out of the car on Thursday without crying. Attended EVERY LESSON!!!
 (First time all year)

School pick up - excepted not going to shops without crying
Technology (Ps4, Wii, DS) - Relaxed, enthralled (peaceful) no burdens
Verbal reminder or prompts for daily duties - Pick up clothes, pack school bag, make bed - only have to ask 2 times
Homework - Did 1 hour on two nights
Dinner - Relaxed
Bedtime 8:30pm (sleep time) 9 or 9:30
Went to bed when asked (but felt scared? Sweat all night more than usual)

Could it be coincidence?  Perhaps? but the impact has been huge! I have watched my son (suffer less).  Seth's routine and supports have remained the same, however from my observation he seems to be less burdened (lighter) which seems to be allowing him to function without tears? He seems to have more control of his body and how he chooses it to react. Looking forward to Plan 2.

with gratitude Michelle
